Tsiknopempti 2018 - Europlan BBQ Celebration

Yesterday afternoon (08.02.18) the entire Europlan team came together to celebrate Tsiknopempti and we all had a big BBQ outside the main Europlan office in Agios Nikolaos. It was a great time for the teams from Elounda, Heraklion and Agios to get together and socialize for the first time since the New Years cake.

What is the meaning of Tsiknopempti?

Tsiknopempti is the Thursday of the week of Kreatini, during which large amounts of meat are traditionally consumed prior to the arrival of Lent, the fasting season leading up to Easter.

In the Greek Orthodox tradition, fasting on Wednesday and Friday is important; therefore Thursday is the best day for Tsiknopempti.

Tsiknopempti is celebrated 11 days before Clean Monday.

Similar celebrations known as ‘Fat Thursday’ are held in many other countries. In many countries there is an equivalent festivity day widely known as “Mardi Gras”.
It was also a time for some of our team to show their humorous side with a chance to get dressed up.

A great time was had from all and we would like to say a big thank you to the partners George Gounalakis, Yannis Marinos and Michalis Chorafas for providing such a great party. Also a big thank you to the cooks for the afternoon, who slaved over the hot BBQ for quite a few hours – Manos Amanakis, Vagelis Plevrakis and Nikos Afordakos.

It really was an enjoyable time which we hope to repeat for many years to come!
